Ok, I’ll get right to the point on this one:
I have to have surgery next Thursday. Between now and then I do not have a day off from work. So things are going to be a bit slow around here.
“How will we know the difference?” Just thought I’d save you the trouble of typing that, because I know you were thinking it.
Anyway, this actually gives me a chance to take a step back and think about what I want to do with this blog, if anything. It has become both a labor of love, but also a bit of a pain in the ass. I’m just spread too thin in other areas, and it always seems as if the blog gets the short shrift. Believe it or not, this is a source of considerable guilt.
In the meantime, I am cognizant that I have several unanswered comments, and those I do intend to get to before I go into the hospital.
So I’m taking a little break until after I go under the knife. Hopefully after a little time I’ll have a better idea of what I want to do here.
And when I’m under, I’ll try to stay away from the white light.

I hate it when you take the words from my nouth and deprive me of some of the simple pleasures in life <—- read giving you shit!!
Seriously? Good luck! I’m sure you’ll be fine and back so I can give you grief before you know it…

I hate it when you take words from my Mouth as well!!
DUH Maureen!!
Oh, Smith. You know we love you whether you are here or not. Whatever you decide, I don’t think the blog itself should ever go away. Not so much for new thoughts/posts (even though my vote would be that they continue) but for the wealth of knowledge, information, wit, attitude, poetry, and everything else this site holds within its walls. You know better than the rest of us how often this place is visited when you’re not regulary posting. That wouldn’t change, my friend.
I guess what I’m saying is, if this beast is strangling you, walk away. But don’t take it with you. There are many who need it.
Oh, and my thoughts and prayers are with you during the knifing. Come back from the light, come back.
Peace, my friend.
Thinking of you, Smith.

I believe it–I get that guilt too! When I began my personal journal in 1992, on cheap spiral notebooks, I tried to write an entry daily, but found it impossible. Now I’m on Volume 27 (each notebook is a volume), and will soon run out of space for the journal, in the old trunk in which I keep it–that’s how high the stack is! Had I not continued, in 1992, I wouldn’t be where I am now. Some of the volumes span years–that’s how infrequently I write in it. But I will keep the journal going until I die. It is the same way with my blog (my public journal)–although I post much more frequently, I’m still unable to make daily posts. And this is okay! Some people can do that–make daily entries in their journals, private or public. But I am one of the many (if not most) who cannot. So any such guilt is invalid. In the art of writing, quality is far more important than quantity, anyway!
i hope smith is okay *sigh*

Hey Smith,
Good luck. Hope it’s nothing too serious. As to the blog, short shrift, labor of love and pain in the ass – that’s about right. We all go through it. Take care.
